Love More

There’s a lot of hate out there. I keep seeing venomous, attacking posts all over social media about today’s issues. As I’ve been thinking of ways to show my husband and children I love them, it’s occured to me that love could solve a lot more. More love is the one thing that we can do today to make the world a better place. The more love is shown the more we show the Lord we love Him.
Jesus spent all of his time with sinners.
10 And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.
11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?
12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Matthew 9:10-13
He served them and loved them and blessed them. He taught them through stories and parables. And yes, on occasion He reprimanded. But mostly, it was gentle teachings. Mostly, it was love.
The world, and perhaps social media,
Maybe we could love our children a little more, by teaching and correcting as Jesus did, with love and gentle stories and instruction.
Maybe we could love the people on the other side of our political views by listening and understanding their side, by conversing with compassion to find common ground.
Maybe we could love the person cutting us off in traffic by making it easier for them to change lanes in the first place, and respond with love and understanding instead of cursing.
Maybe we could love the one we see as a sinner by showing kindness, generosity and support as we would those we don’t see as sinners.
Maybe we could love our friends and family by seeing their needs, anticipating ways we can help and giving a bit more of ourselves.
Maybe we could spread this love by making all the world our friends.
Really, we are all sinners.
Instinctively I like to assume others are worse sinners than I am. But that judgement isn’t mine to make. And even if it was, Jesus was often with the “worst” of the sinners. Still loving them. Still serving them.
And I wonder, how many of those attacking us are really suffering from a complete lack of love? Love could be the cure.
We can show we love the Lord by showing love to everyone. By loving those sinners around us. Love the Lord by showing more love in all of your interactions. And with this one change, the world will be a better place too.
